Our history

Growing with you since 1933

From 25 members and $100 in assets to over 42,000 members and over $1 billion in assets, we’ve come a long way together. While we’re about much more than numbers, here are some we’re proud of.

Where we came from

Started by farmers and fishermen in 1933

Kitchen meetings were held across rural Nova Scotia discussing the need for a credit union to help empower individuals who had difficulty accessing credit. Community members would put funds on deposit to lend out to those who did not have access to capital. This kept funds in the community, helping it grow and prosper—a key credit union aim.

Celebrating our heritage

It started with the recognition of an acute need for credit unions in Nova Scotia. After a lot of thought and work, a legislation was passed that would govern the creation and operations of all Nova Scotia credit unions. And that was just the start of the story.
